Our Story

Traci Ruble founded Psyched in San Francisco as a blog in the spring of 2012 before it became a downtown psychotherapy center.  Traci was keen on leveraging her many years of high tech corporate sales and marketing experience to build some community in the therapy world by writing and thinking with other therapists. She selected therapists to write for the blog whose work stood out to her, people who served under served parts of the community or who took a fresh and poetic perspective on psychotherapy. Traci’s vision for Psyched grew to include real-world activism when she began to wonder, “how can therapy reach people beyond the therapy room?” She started the OhMama! podcasts, the Faces Video ProjectBring An Extra Sandwich Project and now Sidewalk Talk.

If you are ever downtown on a Thursday you may see Traci wandering the streets with her sons, handing out Psyched in San Francisco stickers or on select Tuesdays handing out sandwiches.  Small moments of inspiration and presence can make all the difference.

At the core of Traci’s vision is how to have therapy appeal to first timers: busy working professionals, stressed-out parents and disconnected couples who come from a personal history that devalued growth or asking for help.  She likes inspiring those first timers to come to therapy and she has yet to have a first timer not feel psyched that they finally did it!
